Don?t Quit, Part 2. By Dan & Jennifer Polimino.

Last week we gave you the first five of 10 tips for staying on track with your workout plan. In case you missed them, here’s a quick recap: 1) Get a workout partner; 2) Exercise for multiple short time periods instead of one long one; 3) Plan your meals ahead; 4) Consider a home gym; 5) Scale back your workouts rather than ditch them altogether. To read a more detailed explanation of these tips, visit GreatShapeUp.com and click on Archives.

Now, let’s move on to the final five strategies for staying your course.

1. Keep your goals up-to-date. Once you lose a few pounds, it’s easy to lose focus and revert back to your original behavior, and thus you are original weight (or even more). Make sure you are constantly refreshing goals and deadlines.

2. Hire a personal trainer. Trainers can do many things for you, but here are a few. They can help you stay motivated, provide knowledge and fresh ideas to keep you improving, and they provide accountability that convinces you to work out instead of sloughing off.

3. Join a health club. Let’s say you’ve gone as far as you can go with the few sets of dumbbells you have in your basement. It’s time to move on to a greater variety of equipment. If you can’t purchase it, you certainly can rent it at a health club.

4. Work out first thing in the morning. This strategy is a saving grace for more people than we can count. Life happens, so don’t let the day interfere with your exercise commitment.

5. Pick an activity that suits your personality. For example, if you’d rather exercise in solitude, go for a walk, a jog or lift weights alone in your home gym. On the other hand, if social settings energize and motivate you, try a health club exercise class. You’ll be more likely to stick with your program if it’s something that jives with who you really are.

If you’re having trouble staying on track, contact us at support@greatshapeup.com and we’ll help you put together a plan that gets results. Next week we’ll talk about making fitness fit your lifestyle, instead of the other way around.
